iPod Touch disassembled, bluetooth found!

advertisement

In their teardown of the iPod touch version 2, iFixit found a secret surprise: A Broadcom Bluetooth chipset! Though totally unannounced and not listed on the spec page (Apple says Nike+ doesn't use Bluetooth), the iPod touch's Bluetooth chipset supports 2.1+EDR.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Now if I can figure out how to pair a bluetooth headseat to my iPod touch, and use Skype, then I would in essence have a VoIP iPhone!

Update: MacRumors notes that Nike+ uses the same 2.4GHz frequency as Bluetooth, so that might be what's going on here.

I was wondering how the Nike+ pedometer communicated with the dongle.

Didn't the original Touch have a Bluetooth chipset in it?

Yes it did. But it is a slightly updated BT chipset in the new iPod.

Also, Apple claims that the Nike+ doesn't use BT.

I think they aren't being very forthcoming with this!
